AUDRAS Louis Lucien André soldier of the 7th Machine Gun Battalion of Montélimar armed with a Berthier M16 carabiner.
Great storytellers, the children of Plaine de Crest and Eurre (Drôme) often went to his house to play with AUDRAS Pierre André and listen to stories. One day, CIBBA Pierre, a young neighbor, came to drink a glass of milk and intrigued by the tube that AUDRAS Louis used to stir the fire in his fireplace, he asked him what it was, Louis replied : "That, my little one It was the barrel of my riffle that helped me a lot during the war and now it help me a lot so I don't hurt my back."
He also reconted the fact that sometimes the officers gave them orders to fire their rifles at German planes, he said that it was wasted effort and more effective in getting noticed than shooting down the enemy plane.
The carabiner having a strog forepower completely destroyed the shoulders of the soldiers, he also said that they had welded metal bars and fixed on rolling a Berthier M16 to use it as a mobile machine gun (without the cadence of shooting of course) and relieve their shoulders.
