Mobilized on August 3, 1914 in the 334th RI.
He was seriously injured during the fighting on October 16, 1915 at Hartmannswillerkopf.
He will be awarded the Croix de Guerre with palm and the Military Medal.
"Wounded on October 16, 1915 at the Hartmannswillerkof by shrapnel, comminuted fracture of the right tibia, debridement".
"10-8-16 conferred the Military Medal N/O: energetic and courageous, seriously injured during a German attack on 16-10-15, refused to let himself be evacuated and remained in the trench encouraging his men until 'until the enemy had been repulsed".
Disabled at 40%, he will continue to receive double campaign pay until his injury heals.
It will be reformed temporarily until the end of the war.
