My dear sister,

I have not yet received the package you announced to me, but I am happy to be patient, because I am completely healed. So don't worry about me.

I am sending you the photograph of my house in the trenches.

From left to right :

• a) the small hut in front of which a man is sitting: our kitchen
• b) from there to the flag of the Red Cross: a room - if we can call it a room - which serves as a dormitory, refectory, living room, everything for 10 men
• c) from the flag to the 3rd tree: room for the major - for the evacuees etc.
• d) forward wheelbarrow carrying stretcher with patient and automobile, gift from the Empress of Russia
• e) behind, three trees, towpath and canal
