Louis ARTHAUD promoted to corporal and sergeant on September 30, 1915 following the lack of 800 men in the 52nd RI since the offensive during the second battle of the Champagne mountains.
Participated in the battles of Vosges 1914, Champagne 1915, Verdun 1916, Chemin des Dames 1917 then Flanders 1918. Taken prisoner on May 4, 1918.
Quoted from the 52nd Infantry Regiment : "Excellent non-commissioned officer having taken part in all the actions of the regiment where he stood out both for his morale and his dedication. Bravely led his 1/2 section in the fighting from October 23 to 26, 1917".
