Waterlow DSO (gold braiding on the cap) in the background. This RPPC was sent by Able Seaman James Parks Roe to his Future Sister in law, Lily H E Weston. Who married his brother Harry P Roe(presumably the one mentioned in on the back). James joined the Royal Navy on the 13th February 1913 as a Boy 2nd Class aged 15 and then started a 12-year term starting the 3rd December 1915 on his 18th birthday. He was stationed on the Black Prince from the 21st April 1914. He would have been aboard when HMS Black Prince participated in the pursuit of SMS Goeben and SMS Breslau. Following the escape of the two German ships to neutral Turkey, Black Prince and Duke of Edinburgh were sent into the Red Sea to search for German merchant ships, with Black Prince capturing the German ocean liners Südmark and Istria. HMS Black Prince would be sunk at Jutland on the 31/05/1916 when the SMS Nassau, SMS Ostfriesland, and the SMS Friedrich der Grosse opened fired at her at around 750 and 1,500 yards (690 and 1,370 m) away which is point-blank. She sunk below the waves taking with her the 18 Yrs Old James Roe Park and the other 856 souls on board, with no survivors.
